Hi Hardwareforums!!!
I have a little Problem with my computer…AGAIN
My computer doesnt want to go into Stand by.
When i push the stand by button the computer goes to stand by.
(Everything seems to be O.K.)
BUT…
When i use the computer later again and want to go to stand by mode it shows me the “preparing for stand by mode screen” and the screen turns black then after 2 seconds the computer just leaves the stand by mode and goes back to the log in screen!!!
This is happening every SECOND time i go to stand by!!!
THIS IS JUST CRAZY!!!
I figured out that it sems to be a problem with my linksys wmp11 v.4 wireless card.
“Allo the device to Awake computer from stand by is tourned OFF”
I just dont gett it.
I already tried everything:
Different Ram
Different Powersupply
Different Graphic Card
Different HDD
Updating Bios
Resetting CMOS
Installing Windows XP Prof NEW
Different Driver version
…nothing!!!
BUT…
AFTER I TOOK THE WIFI CARD OUT EVERYTHING WORKED FINE I TRYED STAND BY LIKE 10 TIMES IN A ROW AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!
The linksys card is not broken either (works in my second computer perfectly)
I think the option Wake-On-LAN has been enabled in your BIOS. When your computer starts it shows “press XX to enter Setup”. Press that button when it boots. Then find this option and disable it.
Firts of all thanks for ur help.
The wake up lan is diactivated in the bios and it still has stand by problems.
The thing is that i have already tried another wireless pci card: a Netgear WG311T
And stand by worked excellent with it.
Its just that the linksys canceles the “going into stand by” mode process every second time i use it, by just going back to desktop.
Sorry for my bad english…im german.
Hope for help and thanks again for ur answer. :ohah:
yes i did i tryed the latest and older drivers…nothing seemd to work.
and i cant find any conflict between the linksys card and other hardware.
I tried to switch the pci slots and i even tried it with an old amd athlon 1GHz
NOTHING
What could it be?
Some hardware details:
MSI-6390 Motherboard
Via Chipset
AMD Athlon XP Processor
768MB RAM DDR
40GB 7200rpm samsung HDD SMART-EXCELENT 100% !!! 5Years OLD!!!1
Win XP PRof SP3
ATI RAdeon7000
Realtec Sound chip
I found out something else: Deactivating The wireless card in the hardware manager is not enough…i have to take out the pci wifi card to get my stand by mode to work properly.
Try the following:
Plug in a wired mouse, and unplug the wireless mouse. Now try going into standby mode again. (It uses the 2.4 Ghz frequency which is also used by Wi-Fi. I’m trying to rule out any conflicts with the radio waves).
That doesnt work either.
My computer still denies Sand by every second time i use it and just goes back to the desktop.
What can it be???
A big thank u for your support!!!
My other wifi pci card (Netgear WG311T) works fine in stand by, but has CONFLICTS WITH VIA CHIPSET AND AMD PRODUCTS so i cant use that one either. That just sux!!!
Why buy a nother wifi card if i have already 2??? Because my computer sux!!!
Do you know any other factors that could cause the problem?
In that case the only cause would be some kind of Resource Conflict. If you’re having this issue with other wireless cards in the same computer as well, then it’s probably caused by your motherboard.
Try this: Open Device Manager and expand the component ‘Ports’ (clicking on the + sign). Then right-click on COM1 and choose Disable. Do the same for the COM2 port. If your parallel printer port is not in use, disable LPT1 too. Now reboot. Does it work properly now?
Also, does your BIOS have any options called Plug and Play or ACPI?
If that doesn’t work, see if you can disable ACPI in your BIOS. You can then manually assign IRQ addresses in Device Manager to overcome IRQ conflicts. But first try the above.
