ok i Was checking things out in my bios and it says my cpu speed is 1800 and some (i have a 2500 barton) so i clicked on it and noticed that i could put it up a notch to 2200 and some so before i did i consulted with a friend and he didnt really say yes or no he just started telling me things and then went offline!! so i didnt do a thing. but is what he told me Multiplyer X 11 FSB 200 and then he went offline . i also remember that i am mixing 2 sticks of ram 2100/3200 so i didnt mess around with overclocking because the the bios told me to make sure that something(i forget what it was) was 333mhz im guess they are talking about the speed of my ram. so what should i do? take out the 512 of 2100 and overclock this thing or? thx
Well you're not gonna be able to really use your CPU at full speed unless you have DDR400 (PC3200) RAM, so to get it to the 11x 200MHz you're going to need to take out your PC2100 stick and leave only 3200 in.
The most popular overclock for 2500 Bartons is to set it to 200MHz, however with any overclock you're processor will run hotter. when you do the overclock, make sure you do it in small steps instead of jumping straight to 200MHz fom 166MHz. Always check your temperatures with software usually from your mobo. You don't want load temps much over 50c. Also if the overclock went right you PC should report the CPU as a 3200 instead of 2500.
Ok well i overclocked before i had a chance to reed your post... i think the bios says or(sisoft) says 2x200mhz anyways yeah now it sais my cpu is a Amd 3200+ 2.2.. anyways now when i play HL or HL2 they LAG and i got a visual basics c++ error and the game froze and shutdown???
damn! my board Temp is 28c and my cpu is 42c so thats not that bad... i got this warning frim sisoft..Warning W2541 - FSB exceeds chipset rated FSB. If you’re over clocking the system just be aware that it may not be as stable as you may think. Fix: Reduce the FSB in the BIOS settings/jumpers to the rated FSB. Warning W2520 - The PCI bus speed is too high. The PCI bus speed should not be increased over 36MHz. While most PCI cards may work, some hard drives, CD-ROMs, network cards and other cards may not and you could get data corruption without knowing. Fix: Make sure the FSB is not higher than 68MHz. While 75, 83 or 90MHz give you higher performance the data loss may not be worth it. If the chipset supports asynchronous PCI, enable this option to keep the speed at 33MHz, independent of FSB. Yea try to enable the asynchronouse PCI bus on your BIOS. Other than that you just might have to lower the overclock.
11x200 should come to your processor with very little heat increase and you shouldn't have to adjust any voltage. Your ram may be causing errors, I'd see if you can run it at 200mhz, with the timings 3-3-3-7/8. You also might want to update your BIOS to the latest version.
ok well i put the cpu back to 2500 for no w and it was at 200 mhz. while it was overclocked i downloaded futuremark 3dmark03 and ran that test and my score was 165 . anyways i dont understand what u are saying in the bold letters and also how do i adjust my FSB in bios? is there another name for it? and yes i downoaded the new bios yesterday thx alot
