1 -> 2 GB on my box

Hi!

I have this opportunity to buy another 1G module (new and almost for free :D ) for my box (see My Computer for specs).

Will it be worth the effort of moving my lazy arse to get it?
 
Yep, eventually you'll want more RAM. I thought 512mb would be enough for me a few years ago, and now I'm thinking of buying some more.
 
You will get more speed not because you install more memory on your system, but because of Dual channel support.

Yes, the speed would be higher, true, but since my CPU has a FSB of only 533MHz (and the modules would be DDR-II-533), wouldn't it eventually cause some stability issues?

And what about the shere size that I gain - would it be really twice as effective as it is right now?
 
More RAM is fine but as I understand it, you should take into consideration that more RAM means more physical memory to address. To use an analogy - you are using the same post man to cover more doors in a longer street. True, Dual channel helps but still, more RAM, more area to cover....
 
Labdien :) i've just took a look at some shops online. You can easily get Kingston 512MB DDR2 533 MHZ stick ; 1 Gb aswell :)

Well, I dont know if you have any conflicts when you will install 800 Mhz stick. Your RAM will possibly work under 533 Mhz speed. I would go for 533 Mhz stick.

Theoretically you should get x2 speed when working on Dual Channel mode. But practically it's not possible :) Anyway, your performance would increase slightly than now is.
 
I have a 533mhz stick already, so it's quite sure that i'll get a identical one. also, my mobo supports ddr2 up to only 533MHz.

as promised earlier, here's my experience:

At last something that is more or less up to date ... :P So, I'm certainly happy to have taken the chance of getting another stick. the machine works noticeably faster (supposedly double data rate should be giving like 5% more perfomance when doing office stuff, but I think it's more for me). No instability issues so far, but the next big test will be the coming up Call of Duty 4 release, then we'll see.

But anyways - just stating the obvious - more is better, especially if you can get it just like that ;)
