I have a Biostar P4M80-M4 motherboard. I always had a 512MB Geil DDR400 stick, it is running at 200MHz. I have purchased a 2nd 512MB DDR400 stick (American Data). When installed alone, it too runs at 200MHz. When I install both sticks, it the BIOS memory speed is 200MHz, only one stick is recognized (tried both possible locations). When I take the speed in the BIOS down to 166MHz, they are both recognized and work fine, but I guess they act as DDR333. Any idea what's wrong? Why can't they both work at 200MHz? What is the performance penalty for the reduced frequency? Thanks, Dan
seems like a bios update knocking on your door or maybe there is a problem on the mobo are you sure that the frequency of both the rams are equal using a dual ddr kit may be a solution instead of all
I checked Biostar, they don't have any bios update that addresses the issue. I'm sure both sticks are DDR400, but I know their CAS latencies and other parameters are different.
