Hello, According to the specs of my laptop found on their website, my laptop is limited to 2gb pc5300 memory. But when i tried to install a memory of 3gb it works.. my question is, is it alright if i use 3gb memory instead of 2gb? and if not why..? also, this laptop is already installed with a utility information from HP, and according to software, this notebook supports upto 4gb. BTW, my notebook is HP520 T520. Many thanks.
It might have a motherboard (or even just a chipset) which supports more than 2gb of RAM but maybe the ac adapter supplied with the laptop isnt really up to the job of powering more than 2gb. The power output of apple laptops seems to be published more than for pc laptops.... you can get the cheapo 45w adapters, the mid range 65w adapters.... etc.
?? so meaning its not advisable to upgrade to 3gb unless i also change my ac power adapter? but i found my 3GB working eventhoug im using my default ac adapter?
Im not certain behind HPs decision to only recommend 2gb, but the laptop would certainly consume more power. You have to remember using usb ports, firewire, vga out etc etc would also consume more power so you would have to fully load up your laptop before seeing any possible adverse effects.
sorry to be naive but what do you mean by to fully load up your laptop? do you mean i must purchase a new higher power adapter? if yes, is it safe to use power adapter that that is not the same as its default ac adapter? also, my ac power adapter is already 65w, what ??w will i purchase?
