Well, my Compaq Presario 1750XL hard drive went out today. Normally, I'd order online, but I have need of the unit, so I bit the bullet and grabbed a new 40gb unit. It's a Hitatchi 40GB 5400RPM unit that sports 8MB of cache. Wow! While it only has 256MB of RAM and runs XP Pro, this thing is quite snappy now. I took the old drive out and it had a burning smell to it :swt: Not a good sign. I have to say, this thing is quiet and cool too. I don't miss hard drive lag at all to say the least. I know a higher RPM is better, but I forget how nice a faster spindle speed is.
My HDD is pretty quick, Seagate Momentus 5400RPM, 8MB Cache, SATA Drive. Not too shabby Nice pick up though Big B, hope it serves you well
It's nice that the machine is usable again. I still use it as a router in my room with ICS in use (yeah, yeah, I know), but at least using it to do stuff isn't a unique hell in itself.
