Well, my Compaq Presario 1750XL hard drive went out today. Normally, I'd order online, but I have need of the unit, so I bit the bullet and grabbed a new 40gb unit. It's a Hitatchi 40GB 5400RPM unit that sports 8MB of cache. Wow! While it only has 256MB of RAM and runs XP Pro, this thing is quite snappy now.

I took the old drive out and it had a burning smell to it :swt: Not a good sign. I have to say, this thing is quiet and cool too. I don't miss hard drive lag at all to say the least. I know a higher RPM is better, but I forget how nice a faster spindle speed is.

My HDD is pretty quick, Seagate Momentus 5400RPM, 8MB Cache, SATA Drive. Not too shabby ;)

Nice pick up though Big B, hope it serves you well :)

It's nice that the machine is usable again. I still use it as a router in my room with ICS in use (yeah, yeah, I know), but at least using it to do stuff isn't a unique hell in itself.
