6800GT running at 94C idle

My non-overclocked 6800GT is running at 94C idle temp. and obviously can't play any games for over 2 minutes, because by then the card has hit well over the 127C threshold. I do have a crappy case but it's loaded with fans.

Ambient temp. is 65C and the processor runs at 70 idle (as you may imagine, also prone to crashing every several minutes).

What processor do you have?

Thats insane for temperatures - stop using it or you'll more than likely destroy the card.

You may have a defective heat sink on the card.

Yea those temps are not safe at all. You should be getting at most 40c with the most generic of cooling.

Thats pretty crazy! It does have a heat sink right? If you can exchange it for another one where you got it, I would do that. If not, take off the heat sink and put some arctic silver in place of [probably] thermal pads. Maybe that'll help a bit.

Damn. Restoring FUBAR'd firmware can be a right bitch.

Check the nVidia site for the latest download, but you could be screwed here.

My processor is a P4/3.06-800 It is (was) an eVGA, best I can tell it's reference. I did a dumbassed thing and tried to downgrade to the 6800 vanilla firmware via nvflash 5.13 just now to see the temps then. Blank screen on reboot even though it said "Flash successful!" Now I'm 100% f*cked because when I try to flash to the backup, nvflash spits out "ERROR! NO NVIDIA ADAPTERS FOUND!" Any ideas on getting nvflash to find it, or have I fried my card? (That seems unlikely considering I flashed it down)

Sounds pretty bad. You want to reset your bios somehow. Check your video card manual or online for tech help.
