We recently bought a Leadtek 7600GT AGP graphics card to be able to play some of the newer games on an older system. Our system consists of: P4 2.8ghz Single Core 1gb DDR Ram Leadtek 7600GT AGP graphics card We also bought Bioshock to play. The problem is, when we load up Bioshock, CoD4 or Spellforce2 (came with the card), the respective games will start, get past their developers credits, show their opening movie and then the game will shut off. The monitor will say "No Signal" but the PC continues to operate. Funnily, this problem only affects these games. I can play Counter Strike: Source, Halo, Fifa 07, Overload, Enemy Territory Quake Wars, all with no problems whatsoever. It seems the newer games are causing these problems. We have tried the following things hoping they would fix the problem to no avail. Changed the Page File Turned down Flashy Effects Turned down the resolution Tried both the supplied drivers and the latest Nvidia Drivers Changed the monitors Taken out an old stick of RAM Removed our Norton Internet Security Program And we still have our problem. PLEASE HELP!
As with most things on a PC, things are never straight forward. What PSU and wattage are you running? Ive had issue's with games not wanting to run past the opening credits in the past (namely Black & White 2 and Supreme Commander). Im thinking that the GPU you have purchased isn't powerful enough to run the game. Although the minimum spec states that a geforce 7 series is a minimum, together with a min of 1gb of ram. These min specs are about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. As a min spec even if the game would work you would have very poor framerate, choppy graphics, and generally unplayable. The recommended requirements are: Processor: 2.66 GHz CPU Memory: 2 GB of SDRAM Graphics: GeForce 8800 series or Radeon X1950 series. these serve as a better guide as to what you actually need. You could maybe try taking the resolution down to 800 x 600, or 1024 x 768 to see if this solved the issue. Also make sure the GPU is seated correctly and locked in position as it could be a loose connection. If your wanting to play the latest games then you want to be looking at maybe upgrading to PCI-E. The AGP format is kind of dead with only a few models avaliable. Im sure the other dudes and dudets can advice you further.
Bioshock states that the min is a 6600, a 2.4ghz and 1gb ram. With a 7600GT, 2.8ghz and 1gb ram, I think that should be sufficient to get going, because the short little bit of movie that I do see before it shuts off is smooth and the sound is clear. I have turned everything to Low, turned all the flashy stuff off and ran at 800x600, stops at the EXACT same place each time. The card is firmly in place. This will be our last card before we go PCI-e but I'd like to get this card running and working.
how bizarre!!! different places reveal a different min spec. Ive been on the Bioshock official site and your right on the min spec. The fact that the in game movie at the start runs no problem isn't indicative that the game itself should run. From visiting the offical website forum it appears that there are several issues with hardware shaders on Geforce series 7 cards. Maybe this will help you with Bioshock. Find Answers (Page 1 of 42) I still say that the spec you have isn't up to the task. I have an overclocked amd athlon 2.35gz, 6600gt, and 1gb of corsiar ram and i wouldn't even try running the game.
I play the "waiting game" myself, I am using my built on graphics at the moment, and I'm gholding out for as long as possible for a cheap, good card, maybe in february I will bite the bullet and buy one.
