DigiTimes is reporting that nVidia is slated to release AGP parts for the GeForce 7600GT and 7600GS models here in the near future. Nvidia has revised its product roadmap, due to continued strong demand for AGP-based systems and Intel's ongoing shipments of 865 chipsets, sources at Taiwan motherboard makers indicated. The graphics chip vendor plans to launch the AGP version of its GeForce 7600GS/ GT graphics processing units (GPUs) in the third quarter of 2006, according to the sources. Wasn't AGP supposed to be phased out? Not quite yet, as Intel is re-ramping up production of the i865 chipset. Yes, 865.
I don't understand why they continue to prolong the life of AGP.. Thinking logically, most people with AGP motherboards now will not have the CPU and system specs to take advantage of the extra speed of a 7600 over a 6600. So might as well save money on production and get rid of it completely. Theres still some options left for people with AGP, no need to make its death longer than it should be.
