Still planning my PC... (well, rather waiting for the right moment to spend, meaning just before Dreamfall is out)... Since a 6600GT is much cheaper than a 7800GT, how do two 6600GT's in SLI stack up to a single 7800GT card? E.g. in the system I planned, I have an XFX Geforce 7800GT 256MB. Two XFX Geforce 6600GT's with 256MB cost about the same amount of money. But what performance can I expect from such a setup as compared to a 7800GT? All are PCI-Express. Especially games coming out this and the following years have my attention: Dreamfall, Oblivion, Alan Wake, Age of Empires III, ...
They're roughly equal to a single 6800GT, and the 7800GT is quite a bit faster, so 7800GT all the way, unless you're just craving the need to do an SLI box.
Actually, I was planning to add an extra 7800GT in SLI mode within a year or two. Just have no idea how powerful/performant an SLI solution with 2 cards really is...
SLI will add another 80-90% performance increase over a single card. However, yeah, going with a single 7800GT and moving to SLI later will be a better move.
Get the 7800GTX, prices have gone cheaper now since the launch of the 7900GTX. Look on ebay i got mine from there.
Hmmm... is € 255 a good deal for a card like this (on ebay)? "GeForce 7800 GTX - 256 Mo DDR3 - VIVO - PCI express"
http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/Gforce-7800...ryZ93227QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Yeah here. I'm pretty interested in it. Can't stop you from bidding, but... The guy says he can't use it because he's got an AGP slot only XD Oh, and he also says it's in the original box.
Wouter, I have a 7800GT in my new build and it has taken everything I have thrown at it with ease. BF 2 to full graphics with no problem. I am planning on putting another 7800GT in about a year from now. I would say 7800GT all the way. I got mine from Newegg for $300 US. 300 in UK sounds high to me.
Eventually the GTX I mentioned sold on ebay for €325,02. I'm glad I didn't bid, as I can get a 7900GT 256MB, which has very good results in benchmarks etc. (rivaling or even surpassing 7800GTX) for about € 300. So I'll get that instead ^_^. Glad I waited now. I only hope prices for the card don't skyrocket as demand increases.
Computer stuff always continue to fall in price. The 7800GT has been out awhile and it will continue to drop in price. Is that 300 Euros? That still seems a little high to me. I paid $300 US for an EVGA 7800GT at Newegg. Price some other sites, considering the exchange rate of Euro to US that is a little high in price.
"The 7800GT has been out awhile and it will continue to drop in price." Yes, the 7800GT costs around 300 euros, and for around where I live, that's even quite cheap. Other stores still sell it at €380/€400. Now, for the same price, I can have a 7900GT 256MB, rivaling the 7800GTX 256MB. Incidentally, my maximum budget for a card is €300. So that's a no-brainer.
