Hi guys I recently ordered 8Meg broadband from my provider but they told me maximum i will have is around 6meg that's because i am 3km away from nearest terminal. I understand all of this but my question is: At the moment i have a lot of telephones wires all around the house so if i reduce the amount of wires and do some cable management will my connection speed get better???
theoretically - yes - if you ask BT in reality - not very much at all Edit: what can make a bit of a difference is the type of cable /wire used, use solid core not stranded e.g. not burglar alarm wire
I can't seem to find any online so many different wires don't know which one is right for me  can you recommend me please a place to buy from?
I found this on a online shop, can you look at it Donkey and tell me if thats what i need, not sure if it's solid core  PRO SIGNAL — BT PLUG TO BT PLUG 10M
Hai, I think no. The connection wire will directly enter to the splitter which will split your connection into two ie INTERNET & TELEPHONE. The INTERNET line will be connected to your modem and then to your computer. You only need to maintain this wire to keep the internet speedy. The TELEPHONE wire from the splitter will be connected to your "NETWORK"(as you mentioned). You have not mentioned which browser you are using. If you are using IE it will slowdown your browsing because 20% of its bandwidth is reserved by Microsoft for their own purposes like updates, error reporting etc. Try using some other browsers to make your browsing faster. Another way is to tweak your internet settings in your computer. There are several utilities available for this. Try anyone of them.
no, that an internal flexible cable & is not solid core and if you used that your either have to cut one end off and fit a socket on the end or use a female to female RJ11 adaptor, it is expensive if you buy it by the meter from a big DIY chain, i don't know how expensive it would be to buy a reel of cable from a DIY store, buy, any electrician can buy a reel of about 50M / 100M cheap from there usual cabling suppliers or somewhere like screwfix direct
I am using Mozilla Firefox 3 beta 3 and yes I'm only going to upgrade the line that is connected to my modem.
Just one other question, my broadband speed keeps fluctuating i have been doing speed test few times a day and it goes from 4860kb/s (Download) to 5300kb/s also my upload is 540kb/s to 640kb/s is this normal?????
I looked at screwfix but like you said all they seem to have is 50m and 100m lol. is this what i need but obviously 10m not 100m just wondering is that the kind of wire i need Telephone Cable
generally, it is much cheaper to buy a full reel of cable than to just buy the wire per meter from a DIY store and just keep it in case you ever require any more at anytime, however, if you know you only will ever need (10M as you say) then you could buy a small amount from a DIY store by the meter BTW: there is no indication that the url you posted is actually solid core, so, i'm forced to assume it is, because, it claims to be telephone cable this supplier doesn't seem too bad on price per meter, & obviously extension sockets and crimp tools if you buy from Solwise the item you want is below
