I think ive been had! To the grand sum of £19, but still have a working processor.

I won an auction for a cpu described as...

    Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
    266mhz fsb
AXDA2800DKV4C AQXEA "on the sticker" (+ some other codes)

    He said it overheats.

I went to AMD Athlon XP 2800+ - AXDA2800DKV4C to have a look.
    Athlon 2800+ Barton 13u 266mhz 512kb 2132mhz AQXDA
I didnt notice the E should be D

Ive plugged it and it works. Not overheating either. But forgot to check the sticker! Will do that soon.

BIOS, windows, cpuid and pc wizard see a...
    Athlon XP 2600+ Barton 13u 2124mhz
    266mhz 512kb

    I cant find a Barton 2600 266mhz chip. Only 333mhz ones.

According to SiSoftwares Sandra... it performs like an Athlon xp 2200+.
Sandra always has seemed to have high benchmarks though imo.

Cos I assume its down to a bad installation. The "overheating" cpus ive bought and come across over the years are usually plastered in thermal paste or have not at all. I think this is the first dodgy cpu ive bought. The stepping codes told me that but I missed the evidence. Im not that bothered. Its better than my 2000+ which would only run at 1.25ghz instead og 1.66ghz!
