Hi All, I have this long-ignored CPU which has 1.1 ghz celeron processor and a third party Azza motherboard. I want to upgrade the motherboard of this machine to something which has atleast 3 PCI slots, a slot for agp card, and two slots for RAM. While searching google, I came across lots of results, which suggested using Abit KT7A motherboard. But I am not sure if I can use that board because I dont have AMD processor, I have Intel celeron 1.1 ghz. Kindly provide your suggestions as to which motherboard I should upgrade to. Thanks.
Celeron CPUs are socket 478 if I'm right. In that case, you will need a motherboard that supports socket 478. You can find the specs of the motherboard HERE. It only supports AMD sockets. You can find the list of Intel Celeron compatible motherboards from Abit HERE. You must know the FSB frequence of the CPU and RAM. Then you can choose the right one. If they have an FSB of 800 Mhz, you should buy an 800 Mhz board. If it supports less (like 533 Mhz), then you could buy any board with an FSB between 533 and 800 Mhz. But if could also be 400 Mhz. If you're not sure, then buy a board of 800 Mhz.
It sounds to me like a socket 370 Celeron (?). AMD called this socket A. BUT - AMD have blocked a few holes in the socket (thus making it a socket 462 package) to prevent "accidental" (???) insertion of S370 pentiums or Celerons. You can read a bit more here - Socket A - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia So, I think you are looking for a socket 370 board. Just make sure that it can take your Celeron (or vice versa...). This can probably be found on the manufacturer's site. Try and go for a decent make.... will help system stability.
Any socket 370 motherboard with Tualtin core (the last Pentium III core) will work. Something like the Asus TUSL2-C will work, but there are others.
