    Hi again,

    It's now time for me to upgrade then, but now i'm going for an A64 system. I've listed the essential components to get, i have all the rest of the stuff i need in the computer i'm using now, so if you guys and gals could look it over and make recommendations, it would be appreciated!
    Thanks
    (all prices in AUD currency)

    ABIT AN8 ULTRA NVIDIA NF4 Ultra Chipset DDR PCI Express SATA RAID Nvidia Firewall 1394 7.1 Audio
    $ 189
    OR
    ASUS A8N-SLi NVIDIA nForce4 SLI SATA Raid Gigabit LAN 8-channel Audio
    $ 205

    AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ Retail Box 939
    $ 215

    Expert Vision 6600GT PCI Express 128meg MODEL : 6600GT PCI-E 128MB
    $ 235

    Antec 500watt Smart Power ver2.0 MODEL : SP-500
    $ 125

    Total with ABIT board = $764

    Total with ASUS board = $780

    I'm undecided on the motherboard as of yet, but don't want to spend over $250 on it, same goes for the video card but open to suggestions!

    Cheers

    Very nice, I'd go with the Asus model as it's the most muture SLI board out there so if you want to mess around with that you'll be good to go. But either way it's just a powerful, stable, and feature-laden board which shouldn't let you down. I'd go with an X800GT or X800GTO over the 6600GT, the X800GT should be near the same price but the GTO offers a very healthy speed boost over the GT.

    Yeah, i was considering the X800GT, but then i realised the 6600GT is best bank for buck right now. I can get a X800GT Here for $225, im amazed it's actually $10 cheaper than the 6600GT!
    Do you's think i should bump up the CPU or PSU a bit aswell?
    Am i really going to get that much of an increase in performance over my XP2800 with the A64 3000+?

    If the X800GT is $10 cheaper then definatly go with that, it's a good deal faster than the 6600GT:good:
    The PSU is just fine as is as you don't have any particularly power hungry hardware picked out. In fact you don't really need anything that good, a simple http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104154 will do the trick nicely and with style. A 3000+ is a bit faster than a 2800 but not by much. Dual channel memory makes the most difference really. However overclocked the 3000+ can hold it's own against a 3800+ so that's something to concider (get good ram;))

    Yeah that OCZ modestream you linked up is nice but too expensive for me. I'm not really on a budget but don't want to blow 1 months worth of pay at my new rig. And don't you worry, i WILL be overclocking this baby!
    If it helps, i primarily shop at Gamedude and dont really want to spend over $120 on the PSU, but i will delve further into the matter!
    Also it is really difficult deciding on the video card as i may want SLI in the furture, but the X800Gt is a bit hard to refuse!

    Oh sorry man, I keep forgetting you live in Australia so I was thinking 125 USD instead of AUD, my bad. Yeah if I were you I'd go with the X800GT for now and just get a single faster card when the Big Two refresh their product line a couple more times. By getting a 6600GT now and another one later you'll just be behind in features and the performance still wont be that great not to mention it may be hard to find the exact same model again. But if that doesn't bother you too much then I can see the advantage.

    Thats alright!
    Yeah, i think i'll get the X800GT as i'm now a ATi fan as of 1 month ago. I found some nice RAM Here that i think will do good enough for now!
    The only thing left is cooling. Let me guess-Freezer Series?

    I know, it would be a really smart move if they expanded their services. I'm sure the freezer series has made it around though.

    Actually no, i can't find any of the Freezer series anywhere. I can always get Zalman, Vantec and Thermaltake etc... but no Freezer :(
    I was thinking Zalman?
