    system will not start -

    Symptoms:
    monitor - light just flashes
    HD - is accessed
    CD - lights flash
    Floppy - No access

    Then a dreadful silence
    there is or was W98 on the main drive

    Make sure every cables are connected properly.

    Also, make sure the system clock jumper is set properly.

    Thnx for quick reply
    I have resetted all the cables a dozen times
    I tried different cables
    I have cleared the CMOS (moved jumper from pins 1&2 to 2&3)
    as described in the Hardware information book for this mb
    This cpu / mb / memory configuration was supposedly tested prior to shipment.
    I have all the jumpers in default setting

    What BigB said plus you migth wanna' swap the memory with a known working stick, or test one stick at a time and in every slots.

    Aye, I second that.

    * Power Supply?
    * RAM?
    * Chassis grounding problems?

    Good luck :)

    Sorri for slow response - work week started
    I have 350 watt ATX ps / case and ps are from Aberdeen
    okay -
    all no good
    tried memory one at a time in each slot (i do not have any other DDR)
    tried with no ram - still not even getting a beep
    I put my old board /cpu/memory in case - it still works -
    so the ps seems to be good
    Not sure what you mean as far as Chassis grounding
    (i used same screws to attach the board as old mb)
    have contacted Asus and web place where I bought this combo
    thnx

    He means that a mounting stud might be in contact with the back of the board where it shouldn't be and is shorting something out. Try taking the board out of the case and putting it on a flat surface. Then power it on. You can short the power-on jumper with a flathead screwdriver.

    I'm not saying this is your problem, but to prevent Chassis grounding, I always put washers on the mounting studs.

    It's a pain to do the first couple of times but it's a good way to prevent this from happening.

    If it's a good brand, 350W should be fine. I've never had problems running a good system with that size. Good brands are Antec, Sparkle/Fortron, Enermax, Kingwin...to name a few.

    Like he said, it should be sufficient. the only reason why it would be good for you to get a much more powerful psu is if yours can't handle the load anymore and you need to upgrade. Then I'd say it's good to get a very powerful one for future's sake.
