    Hi all,

I have a Dell Precision M70 running Windows XP Pro SP2 that all of a sudden stopped emitting sounds. It does not even emit beeps in BIOS. There is no sounds coming from either the internal speakers or the headphone jacks. I checked the BIOS to see if there was a setting in there that could have disable the audio or something, but could not find anything. To be sure, I did perform the "load to defaults" option.

Although I doubt it would be the audio drivers since I do not even get beeps during boot up, I did try to install the Sigmatel Audio drivers. In fact, I tried to reinstall the chipset driver, then re install the audio drivers. Device Manager displays all drivers are installed and working.

Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be the problem? I am completely stumped. I would appreciate any help or advice on this.

    Thanks,
    Rob

    Welcome to hardwareforums bzck45

Try using device manager to uninstall the driver for your sound card, and then reboot the computer

    Hello impotence,

Thank you for the reply, but I did try that. Once XP booted back up, it recognized the hardware and successfully installed (at least that's what it said) the driver. Sorry, I should have mentioned this step.

    Thanks,
    Rob

Sometimes this can be the wave device that is set to lowest, have you checked?
