My motherboard is dead, how do i retrieve all information on the HD? I read somewhere that with XP it ties itself to the motherboard. Does this mean i cant just hook it up to another computer and expect it to work? Is all the information lost forever?
    Thanks in advance

Windows in general does not like having the hard drive controller switched out from under it. If you were to swap out the same motherboard for an identical, working one or a different motherboard with the same chipset, you'd be able to boot on your hard drive without issue.

Now, that may or may not be an option for you, so you can hook the drive up to another computer as long as you don't have it being the drive that's being booted off of.

following the Big B's recommendation. when you hook ur drive with another computer then may b you need to initialise it. To initialise the disk you have to Right click on my computer > manage > disk management
There you will see your disk on right hand side bottom. Just right click on it and initialise~!.. `
