Acer Screen sizing problems

Hello everybody, i am new to this here forum. And im hoping i can get some answer here as all my usual routes of info have become dead ends. Ive got a acer 514TXV notebook and its only a celeron 466 128mb ram dvd 2x and so on. no matter as it will be perfect to use as a "jukebox" for my home theater setup. Anyways....

The screen is messed. It only uses 3/4 of the screen with the whole right side is a black bar. Then about 2/3 the way down from the top there is a white bar that runs the entire screen horizontaly. Below the white line is a duplicate of the desktop but only a top portion of it. I rebuilt the machine from top to bottom, cleaning all connections, re taping all leads ribbons and cables and inspecting them all. I checked the bios and nothing, windows is set to use the lcds optimum resolution. And what really bugs me is its this way from port onward so its not a windows problem.

I flashed the bios, upgraded video drivers and everything. Still no success.

Here is a screenshot of it. Notice the white line and duplicated image on the bottom.

Ive been a tech for years and i cannot figure this out. Im hoping one of ya may have seen this before or maybe have some fresh ideas. Thanks so much, i look foreward to contributing to the site and solving some issues for others while i wait for a response.

It looks to me as if the resolution hasn't been set correctly. I got that once on linux and some of the screen wasn't used, or when the res was too high it scrolled at the edges of the screen.
 
Hmm well im currently in the process of formating and then im gunna thow a fresh copy of 98SE on it. The version on it is a "acer" rebranded 98SE so im hoping with a low level format and this new OS it may make a difference....

Anyone know of a bios editor for Acers. As the bios is named Acer, there doesnt seem to be a name...weird
 
The first thing you need to find out is whether you have a hardware or software issue.

Restart your computer and go into the CMOS setup utility (the BIOS setup). If you get a decent picture, then you know you have a software problem. If the picture is still bad, then you have a hardware problem. If the latter is true, i'd suspect a faulty cable somewhere, or maybe a faulty screen (though I'm not so convinced about that).

If you discover you have a software problem, then try changing the screen resolution to a lower setting like 800x600. Try changing the screen resolution to 60Hz.
If none of those work, download the video drives from Acer's webite, NOT the video card manufacturers website.
 
Yah i wasnt clear in the first statement. It is still messed up during post, while viewing the bios. At all times...

All cables seemed fine but i guess ill pull them out and use a powerful light to see if there is any breaks in it. I doubt it it all looked very clean and well organized. taped correctly....
