I have 2 rams of 256mb from my old computer (it's pentinum 3, about 4 years old). I have another pc that's a pentium 4 (about 2 years old) and it has 1 ram of 256mb. What I want to do is take one of the two old rams from my old pc (the pentium 3) and use it on my main pc (the pentium 4), but I am not sure witch ram to use. I'll describe both rams : The 1st ram is a bit ticker then other one and it's writin pc133, 256 mb on it. The 2nd ram is thiner then the 1st one) it's writin pc133-333-520 Witch one should I add to my main pc?
If you look at the notches in the ram sticks you will probably find that they are different. The P3 computer will have normal sdr ram (pc133/100/66 etc) whereas a 2 year P4 will use DDR. You cannot interchange the two. Some P4 motherboards support normal SDR ram but as yours is only 2 years old its very unlikely.
DDR RAM SDRAM +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If you notice on both the RAM's, you will find a difference on the side which goes inside the socked.... DDR has 1 hole whereas SDRAM has 2....
DDR standards for "Double Data Rate". DDR can transfer data on both the rising and falling edge of the clock signal, whereas standard SD ram can onle transfer data on one or the other. This means data throughput on DDR memory is twice as fast, hence the name "Double Data Rate". For DDR and DDR2.....
