As root (or by using sudo to get the same effect), you would need to delete the file /var/lib/dpkg/lock.

So going on what AT just said, the command would be:

    Code:
    sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
Somebody correct me if I am wrong :)

after trying again, i didn't get that error, i got the attached message, while trying to commit changes (i only added alsaplayer-alsa)

    any ideas ?

Edit: tried adding loads of different stuff, and it still says "unable to commit" error

Edit: original problem back, tried running adept updater (2 packages updatable 1 package installable,
    • sun-java5-jre
    • another java one
    • a wine one

its almost as if adept updater is running, preverting adept manager running, but updater is somehow not visible on panel and doesn't appear when i <Alt Tab>

    what do you think ?

Edit: ran aptitude, it came up with this (1st attachment) then updater said 3 updates
    • sun-java5-bin
    • sun-java5-jre
    • wine
update gets to 5% (2nd attachment) but nothing will press 'ok' button

at a loss what to do now, any ideas

    1) Are you running Adept as root?
    2) Have you run dpkg --configure -a as suggested in your pic
    3) Have you checked the running processes in Ksysguard?

Not for adept it isn't! :)

Force close all the adept_updater and the Apptitude, then reopen Adept again.
