Ok, so I'm looking into purchasing a new computer monitor that can double as a TV for use with various video game consoles. My main concern is picture quality for gaming purposes (PC and console). Ideally, I'd like to get something with a component video input though I think I could get by with a VGA connection. Also, I need something capable of preserving a 4:3 aspect ratio. I'm not set on a certain size but I'm thinking something around a 22 inch. My budget is about $350. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey, if you want 4:3 aspect ratio, then I recommend a monitor with 1600x1200 resolution. You are talking about LCD monitors, right? Those are expensive, though, it seems. It might be hard to find one under 350. They're also sort of rare.
The other good option would be a 1400x1050 resolution monitor, but those are very hard to find now. They've all been discontinued by manufacturers. You can do a search on google shopping, though, and still find some leftovers of those.

Both of those are 4:3 aspect ratio on 20" (approximately) monitors. There might be others on larger size screen sizes, but I've never looked because beyond that size it gets too expensive for me.

Alternatively, you can go down to 15". A 15" lcd is 1024x768, also 4:3. The standard 19" and 17" sizes both come in 5:4 ratios, unfortunately.
