    Hi all

Have not been for a very long while.....:(
Life got in the way..... and Linux (only kidding):x:

Aaaanyway, I am seriously looking to replace my mobo as it is been long over due. As there is no budget, I am bidding on eBay. You will be surprised how socket 478 holds its value. So here's the deal -

    Intel 865PERL
ending in 14 hours. Comes with all the bits and pieces from what seems to be a respectable seller. I was hoping to pay no more than £20. Realistic  ?

Behind it, in a day or two there are a few 'Abit' AI7 boards. Are they worth waiting for? There are others like ASUS and MSI but they normally go to about £30, not including the postage. I just need a solid board to replace my miserable ASRock. No OCing is involved. hardly any games as well...

So, shall I porsue the Intel or shall I go for the Abit?

    Thanks all for looking!

I forgot how nice it is in here....

one piece of advise, before connecting the new mobo, reset the BIOS, cos, if the mobo is second hand, maybe the user trying to get it working misconfigured the BIOS, i've found that reseting the BIOS on a second hand mobo will save you a hell of a lot of time & is essential

That's a very good bit of advice! Will bear in mind. Any suggestion about my dilema?

well, everyone has their own opinion about which components are best, but personally, when buying a mobo, the price always does it for me, as money is v v tight

i always get the cheapest, sorry i can't be more helpful

BTW: right now i'm using a Foxconn P4M00P7MB cos it was only £30 "new"

Cheers mate. I have to admit I am the same, tight as a chiwawa's butt! But as I suffered two failures with the same make, I am not putting this to coincidence anymore. So I am buying second hand but hopefully get a bargain = good product for lower price.

I read in a few places that the Intel board is a very solid board. No frills, thrills or spills. Just a decent board. I have bid 22 squids for it and that is as high as I am willing to go. If I get it, I get it.....

Still five hours to go so please feel free to comment....

Next one on the list is an 'Abit' AI7 Guru. With a really cool zalman type chipset cooler... looks very slick...

Update: Intel board went for about £30. Must have been a good'n. Roll on Abit.....

Typically, Intel makes no frills motherboards, and while they're not really enthusiast-class, they're perfectly fine, and perform very well at stock speeds.

The AI7 is a little flashy, but it was a fairly popular board after Abit's IS7 series (back when Abit had a lot of bang in them).

let's make you take a fresh breath i see your gfx is old too so you can make a seller count the mobo and gfx as second hand and buy a brand new ati xpress200 intel socketed mobo

newer than the others also brings a good quality ( not good but better than yours :D) of view

    it is socket 478 form

but if i were you i would have sold all my system and bought new one using an amd cpu because they are better than prescott 3.0ghz cpus

try to look for that too if it won't cost more than 100$ add-up, you shall do it

Dracos, my man you have a point. Sell the lot, start again.
I can see your point but this is not an option. I will get £50 tops for my parts (motherboard is faulty=£0, CPU is good but will not fetch more than £30-£40, ATI 9200SE? You said it....).
Even If I get £100 which I seriously doubt, I will not be able to get a decent PC together. Not in the UK....

No, here is the deal -

Spend the least money possible to keep this rig going for a short while, for, lets say £20-£25. Then when my good lady is not looking, buy an upgrade bundle for about £250 (Core Duo E6xxx) and a simple video card and bob's your father's brother.

Thanks for the advice though.... it did cross my mind but I did the numbers and it just wont work....

nah, man you misunderstood me :D

you will buy all your new parts from second hand, trading is trading :D

by the way firstly i tried to make you consider xpress200 chipset integrated mobos, you can make an extra fund by trading your gfx as second hand, the new mobo support pci express 16x so one day you may buy a hd2600pro as its cheap for general usage

but for the moment i'm obviously suggesting you to find an xpress200 intel-sc478 mobo, asus will be good for you as a brand

    and upgrading to a e6600 havin' system will be costly as you said, you got the point too :;

    Hi

Thanks for the replies. I stumbled across this one here - (not a SiSy :p )
Foxconn 865A01-PE-6EKRS SKT 478, AGP, G/bit lan on eBay For Intel, Motherboards, Desktop PC Components, Computing (item 220142162486 end time 27-Aug-07 17:29:26 BST)

It is a Foxconn 865A01-PE-6EKRS. I had a quick look on Google and it got a blinding review on Extreme Overclockers

Now, I never heard of Foxconn so are they the real deal or a conn ( you have to appreciate this.... I am amazing myself lately!!! )

Update: Made a bit of a mistake. The auction was buy it now or best offer. I jumped in too generously. Needless to say that the buyer nearly bit my hand off. Got the above Foxconn for £20. I just hope it will work better than my ASRock.

foxconn is a valueable and trustable brand just like asus

they have gfx boards under the name of leadtek

and they have mobos with the winfast brand

also i have used a 915p chipset winfast mobo, it's exremely available for oc and high performance product

never had any problems with it, though after 7 months i have upgraded to a abit 925x mobo
