As some of you may know I was looking to change my aperature size as FarCry says it's set too low. Well I found it and FarCry was right, it was only at 32MB. So I cranked it to 256Mb just to see what would happen. No surprise, it asked me if I wanted to go into safe mode, start normally, etc. I set it to 128, same thing, 64, same thing. So why won't my video card work with a dinky 64Mb aperature? The 6800 is more capable than that. Maybe I'm missing something here, anyone care to shed some light?

Anything less than 64MB will "turn off" the AGP effectively, but beyond that, you aren't really going to see a marked improvement that wouldn't be in the margin of error in testing.

If it's just FC you're having trouble with, I'd patch that sucker up and go from there. After that, you might want to play around with some different drivers. I've not had any problems with FC and my 6600GT, but it's a PCIe part---although I seriously doubt that's an issue (at least it shouldn't be). Windows shouldn't, but it may have gotten confused too when you changed the apeture. If it only asks if you want to go into safe mode once, I'd ignore it.
I don't really have a good answer, but it's possible the motherboard might have some bugs in it or the BIOS, so you may want to check out specific issues with your motherboard.

Thanks man, I just set the optimized defaults so it's back at 32Mb. Go figure. FarCry runs fine its just riddled with artifacts like I mentioned in the other thread. I'll patch it when we get highspeed most likely. The weird thing is now when I go to launch fear it says: "Unable to initialize the renderer to a valid video mode" what's with that? I mean I could understand if messing with the aperature size messed it up but I did load the defaults. Oh well I beat it a while back so it's no big deal.
