AGP graphics card

Hi ,
I have a Pentium 4 3ghz cpu
1gb ram
p4s800-mx se motherboard
ati radeon 9800xt graphics card

I was interested in purchasing a new graphics card (AGP) so I can play Call of Duty 4 with higher quality settings and a higher resolution. My question is would it be of any benefit to purchase a graphics card like the POWERCOLOR AGP X1950 PRO 512 DDR3 would it enable me to crank the quality up quite a few notches. At the moment it only runs smooth with all settings turned off and 640x480 resolution. I suspect that the cpu is too slow...

By the way I do not wish to purchase an entire new system at the moment.

You are right. By buying X1950 PRO 512 DDR3 you will not be able to play Call of Duty 4 with AA/AF turned on which means your CPU bottleneck. The best move would be upgrading whole system as you would only feel minimal increase in performance if you go for a newer graphics card.
 
While a new rig will be the most beneficial, that card will give you some additional breathing room. Depending on the age of the game, you may be able to run as high as 1600x1200.

My only concern with a card like that would be your current power supply and it's ability to provide sufficient power to a card like that.
 
thanks for the replies, i was hoping i would get a reply like what big b said.
it appears Call of Duty 4 release date was November 5th, 2007. as for the power supply i will have to check that. i would be happy just to run it at 1280x1024 with a few quality options turned up. do you think its worth a try provided i have a good enough power supply?

Yeah. I'd imagine 1280x1024 should do that with COD4, but don't quote me.

I ran a single 7900GS for awhile, and that's comparable to the Radeon X1950Pro, the lowest X1950 chip. Most things would do 1280x1024 if not 1600x1200. The only exception I've run into is Crysis, which is known to eat 8800's for lunch.
