AMD vs Intel Atom AMD isn't going down, period, its not even a case of, i'm not going down without a fight. They are geared up for a full on revival. That said, AMD's Bobcat isn't scheduled for released until next year, but in the meantime they are in the trenches with their Athlon 64 2000+ So, how does it stand up? Quite well actually, AMD is using a newer chipset, their 780G vs Intel's i945G, which is short, uses less power and packs more features. AMD Shanghai Rush Shanghai is the server counterpart to Denab, only it uses socket 1207, vs AM2/940/AM3? that Denab will be using. This is AMD's 45nm processor that will go up against Nehalem. AMD said they will not do again what happened with Barcelona, and will hit markets Q4 2008. Athlon Vs. AMD seem to have a fighting spirit this year, they are taken on Nvidia with the release of the 4800 series and now they might just be able to take on Intel's new flag ship chip which is now actually called the Core i7 not Nehalem (that was just a code name) click here for more info on it But all i got to say is go AMD show them whose boss :chk: BTW i just finished reading the review but I'm left a little bit confused how can a cpu chip run at only 8 watts??? or have i completely miss read it????
Well, considering what its doing, and how far processors have come from then, Atom/Athlon processors being used were invented, years ago, i see it being completely understandable. They go in ULPCs, they are tiny, and don't require much of anything. That said??? no.. its still a Nehalem, i7 replaces core 2, so no, its correct. The chip isn't going to be an Intel i7, its going to be an Intel Nehalem on the Core i7 microarchitecture, as apposed to a Core 2 Conroe. (Core 2 Conroe/Allendale, Core i7 Nehalem/Westmere)
