If you press enter on "auto" in bios does the name of the drive come up? If not try chnaging your jumpers. If its set to cable select try master/slave configuration or vice versa. Ive got a drive which will only work if set to CS in one computer and only work as master or slave in another computer. Its murder!
is the HDD the only IDE device ? is it set as master, slave or C/SEL (cable select) ? which channel are you using (primery or secondary) ? (not essential to know, but may be helpful later)
cheers for being quik to reply ,have set the jumpers on hard drive to master, hard drive in middle of ribbon, bios doesnt show name of hard drive but can enter numbers manally for the harddrive and the bios not showing cd/dvd drive.can an old system work with these as they are only a fews years old? ta for any help
They will work ok. If the hdd is in the middle of the ide cable then you will need to set it to slave and not master, even if it is the only thing on the lead. Its best to stick cd rom drives on a separate ide lead to the harddrive. Most people put the harddrive/s on the primary ide and rom drives on the secondary.
