well this is new news to me, but it turns out that all of the good stuff AMD is planning is going to come out Q2.... yeah, hopefully by then its not to little to late techPowerUp! News :: ATI R600 will NOT launch this quarter!
Good thing I got the 8800 instead of the X2800 then... I'd have been waiting for ever. AMD ATi have had BIG delays, hopefully it'll be worth it...
That's true, however, nVidia is sorting out some driver issues, particularly under Vista (but then, that's mainly due to MS giving them about 2 months with the final version to get drivers for a new driver model). Secondly, the 8800's are only able to handle 768MB, hence the non-standard memory configurations of 768MB or 320MB. R600 will handle 1GB, and the way the driver team has been progressing they could come out of the gate swinging.
really, i haven't heard that, but you would figure with AMD backing ATI or i guess controlling ATI they would have all of their driver issues all sorted out.
Which would be good. They've had great hardware for a long time, but they've had the uncanny ability to screw it up with drivers. ATi has long been known for shooting themselves in the foot with drivers, but AMD is likely to be more of a taskmaster (in a good way) on this.
It'd be better for them to have a delay and come out swinging, than hit with crappy Vista drivers. If they do that, they'll look much better than the GeForce 8800's do right now. I'd be pretty PO'd too if I dropped that kind of cash for 8800GTX SLI, Vista, and then couldn't run it. But, then again, that's just me.
lol, no i'm pretty sure anyone would freak out if they spent a grand on two cards and they don't work
