I have a choice between 2 PC's, the Gateway 5472 witn an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ or the Gateway 5468 Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160. I don't understand the differences between the 2 processors (i.e. - which one is better) but otherwise the specs look about the same. Could you please send your thoughts, opinions and advice?

I have put the specs and pricing below:

    5468 - $680
    19" Gateway LCD Flatpanel monitor
    Intel Pentium Dual Core E2160
    •400GB hard drive
    •Amplified stereo speakers
    •2GB of DDR2 memory
    •Burns DVDs and CDs
    •Windows Vista Home Premium

    5472
    19" Gateway LCD Flatpanel monitor
    •AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
    •500GB hard drive
    •TV tuner/remote
    •2GB of DDR2 memory
    •Burns DVDs and CDs
    •Windows Vista Home Premium

Unlike all other Pentium 4/Pentium D's, the Pentium E is based off the Core 2 design. Having said that, even with the impressive performance, the Athlon64 5000+ has enough grunt that it's simply a better chip here. It has a much higher clockspeed, which in itself isn't the key, but it's performance per clock is still decent. Combined with the higher clockspeeds, it simply out classes the Pentium E.

I don't see a price listed for the AMD setup. Thats always a factor... for me anyway.
