Anti-Norton...

Well I was fortunate enough to finally rid myself of Norton Anti-Virus that everyone knows isn't worth crap. At first I assumed it was very important to have ol' Norton doing his thing but then it became bloody annoying when it literally started poping up little messages every 2 seconds asking me if I wanted to block, permit, configure etc. I'd say permit and then not a second later the same freakin' message would pop up. Needless to say I looked though my progam files and deleted it from there. Thank goodness for that.
Which leads me to the question: What virus protection program do you suggest? I don't want it to be restrictive, annoying like Norton, or some huge file that would explode my modem when I try to download it. Thanks, much appreciated.

Best luck I've had is with Kaspersky AV. I know it's caught a few things Nortons, McAffee and AVG have missed.

For a free program though I'd check out AVG.

Never liked NAV myself! to answer your question, I'd suggest AVG - Free Edition you can get it from here http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

I've used for sometime now, not had any problems with it!

The one that always popping out every now and then isnt the Norton AntiVirus, its the Personal Firewall....Its asking your permission whether to let one program connect to the internet(ie:Trojan Viruses, Spywarez or Anything that uses internet).Try to choose block always, or permit always...

But for a good Anti-Virus, they are right, consider AVG. But do bear in mind that an anti virus program itself wont protect you from trojan horses and spywarez.

Try Avast ... it's free and always works for me.

Thanks afidelino but I choose alway permit and it would just pop right up again. Now that I've trashed NAV I never get these windows anymore so I'm happy.
Thanks everyone but AVG unfortunatly expires after 30 days so I'll look at what Avast I guess.

The new 7 edition is also better than previous 6 versions.

Is the AVG free edition ("avg70free_308a468.exe") different from the trial version? Otherwise it would be kind of weird for someone to download the trial version if you could just keep the free edition for as long as you want but I don't know.

I hate how McAfee does there updates. The average user would never get updates because of the pop-up blocker. When I installed Battlefield Vietnam when I was using AVG it said one of the files was a virus. NAV has given me the least problems.
