I'm looking to replace my netscape/aol email account because it sucks now. I already have a gmal, hotmail, and yahoo account, and I don't want to have 2 from the same company because then it's not possible to do automatic login by having my browser save login/password info. So I need a new email site. Any recommendations?

You could use 2 GMail accounts with the Firefox extension Gmail Manager

May i suggest using a remailer service like the one you get automatically with a sourceforge account. This way you can test every email service on the web and still have the same email address for your friends, work etc. Each time you change your email service you'll only have to give your remailer the new address and your life will be simple and full of happiness

That sounds like a great idea, you should be able to do it with your GMail account!

Hey tech 1709, what exactly is this remailer thing you're talking about?

Its like a proxy mailer, a service that will issue you with a email address but instead of supplying a full account like your Hotmail/Gmail account only acts as a forwarding post to send your mails onto another address, the address of your real email account.

I plan to use this type of setup myself when i have time to set it up so i can supply just one address to my friends but still have the flexability to use whichever email provider i want.

If i'm making no sense, try here

Hmm, well from the wikipedia link you gave, I understood that the main purpose of this service is to hide the return address of your outgoing email in order to be an anonymous sender...
Sorry, but how exactly does this apply to the other way around, receiving emails, again? Sorry... but yeah I still don't get what you're suggesting. I think I'm partially getting it but not quite lol.

Try thinking of it like this:

If anyone sends an email to [email protected] the the-remailer.com will send that email to your real email address (or whatever email address you told it to send it to). This means that you can change from hotmail to gmail (etc) and as long as you change your real email address (on the re-mailer service) then you won't have to tell anyone that your using a new address (as it will still be [email protected]).

Ohhh okay I get it! Finally. haha thanks! Sorry for being so slow...
So, according to that wiki article, I just need to make sure it's a traceable type of remailer, like the "nym servers" or "pseudonymous remailers", right? Any recommendations?

Afraid not. I still have to do my homework on this myself but i do currently have an unused remailer that i got my with my SourceForge.net: Welcome to SourceForge.net account. I cant recommend it but I cant rubbish it either. It depends on whether you'll want to do some open source programming in the future :), so you'll just have to do a little research, sorry

If you turn up any good services i'd appreciate the fruits of your wisdom ;)
