Are the new 45nm CPU gd for OC???

Hi Guys

Just heard that the new 45nm CPUs are really good for overclocking i heard that the new Core 2 Quad Q9450 (Yorkfield, 2.66GHz, 12MB-cache) can be OC to 4.2 on air very easily. I wonder how it will do when water cooled the possibilities are endless :D

I'm seriously considering on getting one.

Anyone experienced or heard better results?
 
Ya, the new 45nm procs are quite good for overclocking. The reason being the smaller die. The power consumption is lower, thus the thermal output is lower. I've seen alot of stories of 5.0GHz quads on liq cooling. But it does have to be quite powerfull.
 
Nah, the bottleneck for crysis would still be the GPU. Untill GPUs actually take FULL advantage of the power available to them crysis will be bottle necked.

wow, I never knew they could OC so well. Mabye I might look into this when a heavily OC'd E2160 isn't enough.

I'd like to see amd beat that, they throw out these 3-core processors and intel pwns them with these. I don't see why they delayed the quad processors, it's not like amd is any competetion.
 
They delayed because they are still top dog. There is no need to bump their current hard hitters (E2XXX, E4XXX, E6XXX, Q6XXX) now for another one of their own products. They can at least slow down production and deplete a bit of their stock and not plummet their prices this way, instead of releasing a superior chip forcing them to lower prices on their current procs to get rid of that stock. It's a smart move imo.
 
anyone actually got one of these new, small manufactured CPu's? Any O/C stories to share? What speeds have you achieved on what cooling? etc.

Thinking of getting a Q9450 :P

Btw the new Extreme QX9775 is out for pre-order in the UK it has 12mb cache, 3.2GHz and 1600MHZ FSB mmmmmmm :) but it's over a grand to buy :doh: but i bet this is going to go to some ridiculous speeds something like 6GHZ with water cooling lol

mmmm not for me, unless I won the lottery or something, I would never buy top end components. I will always be the type who goes for "above mid range" section, despite having this same damned computer for 3 and a half years... cost a bomb when I first built it too, and it used to have a 7600GT in it, until I stopped gaming and swapped with my 2 brother's computer for a 6200TC :D
I next intend to build a PC in 2010, and maybe "09, not sure yet.
Might wait til the 32nm intels are out, or see if AMD actually catch up. Back when I bought my Athlon 64, it was the best mainstream desktop CPu out, apart from the X2 of course, but they used to be 80% more in cost :S
