I've never heard of ARKUA, are they generally good for CPU cooling? I am looking at the ARKUA 6228 heatsink and fan combo for a P3 SKT 370.
They've been around for awhile, but I can't think of any high-powered cooler they've made. However, for your applications, it'll probably be fine. I would check and see what fan is included. Back in those days, high-RPM Delta fans were used, and weren't quiet from what I read...of course, keep in mind that some people are more sensative to noise than others, and I'm not one of those people. The design looks like some I've seen before that performed well. I wouldn't spend a whole lot on cooling for a Socket 370 rig, but if that's less than $15-20, it can't be any worse than stock cooling.
Thanks for the tip :good: It'll be for a coppermine 1GHz which I plan to OC to around 1.3GHz (10 X 133). Unfortunately the ECS p6bat autodetects the multiplier, so I can only OC the FSB. [ot] It's a damn shame that Tyan Dual Slot 1 Mobo never showed up :x: [/ot]
personally I don't think you'll reach 1.3 on FSB clocks but that cooler looks fine for a coppermine do you know how much air that fan moves?
No idea! But the fan spins at 6600RPM The processor has a 100MHz FSB, as well as the mobo. So in theory, I can reach 1.3GHz with the muliplier 10x133.
1GHz was the fastest P3 to come out. Dell did get a batch of 1.13 Coppermines, but they were recalled as they weren't quite stable enough for Intel's liking. Yes, there are the 1.26 and 1.4GHz Pentium 3's, but those use the Tualtin core. I really wouldn't get my hopes up for any major OC's considering what you have. I wouldn't expect much over a 100MHz OC, but who knows, you might end up with a lucky chip.
I've decided to buy that Arkua heatsink+fan and a 1GHz CPU. The Pentium arrived yesterday in the post (pretty fast by Royal Mail's standards ) . The guy I bought it from of eBay wrapped it up in kitchen paper and sealed it inside an envolope!! What an idiot, does he not realise kitchen paper can cause static and damage the CPU. I'm half expecting it not to work when I plug it in.
