I've got an irritating problem when running any software which uses "3D Graphics" e.g. Games, or Graphical software... After a short period of time running the application, it just bombs out into windows, with no errors or failures... There's no errors in the event log, or any other logged error I can find.

I've run a hardware test by two seperate manufacturers and found no problems. I've replaced the Power Supply twice, and the case... The BIOS is fully up to date, along with all drivers for the graphics card and the motherboard...
    I'm running the following:
    AMD Athlon 3200+
    1Gb RAM
    Nvidia Geforce 6800
    ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard
All thats runninf off a brand new Seasonic 450W PSU.
The CPU temp runs at 45 degrees constantly.

Has anyone had a problem like this before or knows whats causing this?

    Simon.

I'd check out the RAM with [google]Memtest[/google] and see if you get any errors. If you do, we'll go from there.

Oh, yeah, I deleted your other thread since it's the same as this one.

I've already tried memtest and found no errors.
I've also used Eurosoft PC-Check which again returned no errors.

    What are your system's temperatures?
This includes the CPU and Video card mainly.

I've rebuilt the PC from scratch twice, which would have removed any viruses and spyware. Also did a low level format just to be sure.... On the subject of viruses has anyone had any problems running McAfee Viruscan 8.0.0 with graphical applications?

Temp wise, Ieft it running over night yesterday and it runs idle at 40 degrees for the CPU, and 25 degrees for case temp. I can't look at the temp of my graphics card.

Actually, you can on the GeForce 6000 series (and up).
Right-click on the desktop. Go to Properties-->Settings--->Advanced. Now click on the GeForce 6800 tab. Off to the left of this box, you'll see a list of options, one of which will be Temperature Settings.

    Thanks didn'nt know that.

What would be a stable temp for the GPU?

I'm no expert, but for me, the default slowdown threshold is 127*C. I don't know if that's straight across the board or not, but I would think nVidia knows what they're doing with their graphics chip. Keep in mind, I'm running a 6600GT here, but still, I don't think nVidia is pulling a number out of thin air. My guess is that anything below 100*C should be fine, but even lower, like say 80*C would be where you might start to worry.

Mine doesn't have the temp info.... In any case I've taken my Graphics card out and tested it in another machine, and it has run over night without any problems, so that points on either the Motherboard, CPU or memory?

that can't be right. I'm running the 6800 ultra and have temp settings.

    Core Slowdown is 135 c
Ambient Temp is usually at 40 and gpu is usually between 52-56 when Im not running games. Now that I think about it I've never checked how much it rises in a graphically intense game.

    I can't find a temp setting, but I'm just running a 6800 standard card.

Any case, I've sorted the problem, it was the memory! Which is odd as both mem test and PC Check said the memory was fine. I put two new DIM's in and theres been no more problems since... It's always the simple things!

    Cheers.

Did you have different brands mixed together? Or even two of the same brand with different memory chips? That can cause problems in some cases.

No, I know it's not good to mix mem types or modules. It was however Kingston "Value" RAM which says a lot about it's reliability, but it's cheap and it lasted a year so I'll live with it!

    Thanks again
