    Hi there,
I have just built my new pc, with an Asus A8N-E Motherboard. Everything seems fine, apart from the built in USB2 ports seem to only work as USB1. I have updated xp home with all the latest updates, but it still has not worked. Is there anything I need to do since all the updates have been installed to tell xp that they are infact usb2?
P.S my original copy of XP is very old, so it did not come with either service pack 1 or 2

    Many Thanks

Update to Service Pack 2, which you can download for free off Microsoft's website through Windows Update.

After that's done, you can go into Device Manager, and reinstall the driver of the USB root hub and it will work as USB2.0

You'll either have to download one of the service packs or swing by Microsoft or ASUS and grab the USB2 driver as the original XP version didn't include it by default. You could also check your driver cd that came with your motherboard as it should have it on there.
EDIT: You just beat me to it B

i have the latest updates for XP, but still no joy. The CD with the motherboard did not have any drivers on it.
I have uninstalled them, and then tried to reinstall, but everytime it finds the USB (not USB2) drivers.

HELP ME PLEEZE - I have sent an email to ASUS, but from what I have heard about their customer support, I am not holding my breath!!

Okay, for clarification, do you have Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2 installed?

If not, the following will not work:

-Go into Device Manager and go down to the USB-->RootHub. Right-click on it and hit Update Driver
-When the Wizard pops up, allow it to "Install Software Automatically", and finish the Wizard.

My USB 2 ports do not say USB2.0 in Device Manager, but they are USB 2.0 and work as such. If you've done a test on the USB transfer speed and found it to be less than up to snuff, then you might have an issue.
