    Hi

My friend recently bought an Asus K8N-DL mobo with a couple of top spec hardware components. I managed to put this together, having built numerous (non dual cpu) pc's before I didn't see this as being a problem. The system however won't past the post sequence displaying nothing on the screen and just making a continious beeping sound.

I even installed a post diagnostic card and this presented an FF post code which according to the Award Bios code list says 'Boot the operating system' which doesn't make any sense as it won't boot up. I've tried absolutely all variations of the hardware components, removing some leaving others as well as single cpu installation and clearing the cmos. None of this made any changes to the non booting system giving the exact same result.

I'm thinking its the mobo thats defective but would appreciate any suggestions.

The full system spec is as follows:
    - Asus K8N-DL
    - 2 x Socket 940 Opteron 275 2.2Ghz (I installed as dual and single)
    - 1GB Crucial PC3200 RAM Chips (Total 6 but I've tried all variations 1-6)
    - nVidia NX7900GTX 512MB Gfx card / nVidia Geforce 6200TC 128MB (I tried both cards but ended up testing with the latter as the 7900 takes up too much space ;) )
    - Western digital Raptor 150GB HD (Total 2 but again only one was installed during testing of the system)
    - Arctic 600W power supply

    Thanks in advance

continual beeping suggests a RAM problem, but what is the beep sequence (number of short beeps & number of long beeps) but if you have an other RAM try that, but you may find that simply removeing & reinserting RAM works (to ensure a good connection) also try removing all connections and reconnecting them (to ensure a good connection) also look at the DIMM sockets, make sure there's nothing in there like dust.

Ahh, yes. Registered is required on Socket 940 Opterons, but ECC may be optiononal, depending on the chipset. However, Registered and ECC are typically featured together.
