I have recently brought a computer that has a foxconn 945p7aa motherboard, the ata 100 socket works ok but the two ultra dma ata 133 sockets dont work properly, what every i plug into them dosent work and i have tried about 10 diffrent IDE cables, do i have to install the raid drivers before they will work properly or could it be somthing else.
What do you mean "the ata 100 socket works ok but the two ultra dma ata 133 sockets dont work properly" ? Are you using a different socket on the board? The difference between ata 100 and ata 133 is the dma setting in BIOS, plus you need an IDE lead which supports the speed you want to run it at. You should be using the same IDE socket on the motherboard regardless of which dma setting you want your drives to run at. Are you sure you aren't plugging your IDE lead into the RAID socket on the motherboard? If that is the case you will probably need to install the drivers, yeah. Ive never had RAID on one of my boards so dont know what you have to do to get it to work. It sounds like you are using two different sockets on the board so it probably is the drivers that are stopping it from working.
Let's clarify by "it doesn't work". Are they not showing up in Device Manager? Is the ATA133 controller showing up in Device Manager? If not, do you have any unknown devices showing up there? Have you made sure the controllers are enabled in BIOS? If they are enabled, have you enabled the RAID function? Are you connecting hard drives or optical drives to the ATA133 connectors?
