Hi guys i'm new to the forum, just saying hello first. i'm planning on getting the Athlon 64+ 3200 with motherboard MSI K8T Neo2-F VIA K8T800Pro w/ GB LAN, Audio. but i'm not sure whats the actual ghz i'll be running at? can someone please tell me and also for the Athlon 64+ 3500 as well thx.
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_9485_9487^10248,00.html 3200+ runs at 2.0GHz, and the 3500+ runs at 2.2GHz.
Thx a lot for the info and the link Big B. would't it be better to buy a Pentium 4 3.0E GHz 1MB cache since it can run at 3.0 ghz? and it cost almost the same as the A64 3200.
I dunno what AMD do, but I can almost guarantee you that an athlon running at 2.2Ghz will own a 3ghz pentium. The FX-58, which runs at like 2.9ghz, I believe, beats the pentium 4ghz in nearly every benchmark.
GHZ don't matter much at all. MHZ are cycles a CPU does, how much work the CPU does per cycle differs from core to core. The AMD cores do more work per cycle then the P4's so they can run at lower GHZ while still beating them. That's why they can be 2.0ghz and be rated at a 3200+. Because the 3200+ would be comparable to the p4 3.2
FX-58 at 2.9GHz, where did you get that number? And a P4 4GHz....um, you doing ok Waffle? Wanna share the link with the rest of us that you got this info from. IMO, Athlon64s are the best gaming CPUs at this point. Try and get a CPU with 1MB L2 cache and overclock it the couple extra hundred MHz and youre set.
thx a lot for the info guys, WOW!! is A64 that great? over-run a p4 3ghz. if i do get da A64 3200+ and gonna overclock it, which fan do u guys suggest for it and how long can i keep it overclock for? cause i don't wanna fry the cpu.
Thermaltake makes some pretty b!tchin stuff! They makes some massive heatsinks that hold 120mm Fans , 120mm fans move a lot of air at low noise
until the CPU goes bad. I have a 2400+ sempron overclocked from 1.64 to 1.8 right now, and I leave the clocks the same all the time
You want a fan. I garen u this wud work.. im on the 3.4 a64.. with this fan... OCed it quite a bit, and its fucking lush.. this fan is about 7inches tall, so u gotta have a phat case... and the MSI mobo is the sweetest mobo ive had. an ive had alot... http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Gigabyte.html trust me, this PC will not let u down... 1 bit... and the only good thing about pentium is... their PCI express mobos aint bad... oh.. and all the noobs buy em, so all of us can have the best pc's
...or cuz PCWORLD sells them EDITPCWORLD is a stupid commercial over priced shity PC shop in the UK... nothing like BESTBUY wich is also overpriced... but by a longshot about 500times better...)
