    Hi,

Does anyone know when the new gen cards for Ati (3800 series) will come out in the UK ?

Also how much the price tag will be ?

It's not clear yet from what I know. However, from what I'm reading, we'll get some more info here in the near future. As for price, I expect it to be around what you get with the current X2900s in their respective performance ranges.

I don't know if we'll see them available before the end of the year in the US or not, let alone the UK.

I would imagine that it being a next gen design, it should perform better. Unfortunately, at the present, there's no data publically available to show what's up.

Basically, ATI claims that it will be on par with the new 8800GT. The only reason I would take the HD3800 is because it supports the new Directx 10.1. However, I'm not a fan of Vista, so I haven't got anything to worry about. Another thing you may want to consider is ATI's shotty drivers. They have been absolutely horrible as of late... And new cards that are supposed to be real performers are giving up to 20% less performance than promised.

k thank you Gazaway but is there a big defference between DX10 and DX10.1 ?

I also heard that ATi are going to do dual core GPU the 3870 X2 (512MB times Two) this card sounds great but if only i can get some more information about it, there is very little info out there. Anyone Know MORE ?

I have just looked at overclockers UK and its on pre-order for £150-£170 which in my opinion is very good price for what you get i am now more interested in getting this card rather then the 8800GT as that is more expensive £170 - £200 but im not going to rush things i need to see some more reviews and then make my mind up.

There is a pretty big difference between the 10.1 and 10.0 from what I've read.. :/ But, the games that are made for 10.1 will work just fine for the 10.0 cards. I just hope we dont start getting directx updates this often, seems like they are trying to help card manufactorers sell more cards.

I happen to be considering one of these cards myself :p but I am waiting until February, when the prices drop and the hype dies down and we will see how the ATi puppy drivers perform ;) Think I will get the HD 3850, the rest of my PC is a pile of shlite

    Hello

Firstly we don't know if the new drivers will be bad but if they are i wouldn't be worried because i have used Omega drivers instead in the past and found no problems with them at the moment there is no drivers for the 3800 series. Omega drivers are much better then ATi drivers click on the link and have a look at the website.

Firstly, DX10.1 means nothing, games that are DX10.1 will be FULLY compatible with DX10.0 cards, its just a new superset that ads things like free 4XAA, wont be seeing DX10.1 games for a while yet.

Secondly, the HD3800 series is looking to be a 2900XT on a smaller process (55nm vS 80nm) and less transistors.

It's the same price as an 8800GT and its expected the 8800GT will be faster than it.
