ATX Case Size

Well, the ATX motherboard specification is 12x9.6 inches. If it can't accept a motherboard of that size, it's simply not ATX compliant. Any case (which is 95% of the cases you'll run across) saying that it's ATX should work. Just be advised that getting the dinkiest ATX case you can may not be the smartest move. Remember, you'll have to get the motherboard in there and connect cables to it, so having room to work with is something you really want. The other thing depends on the cooler you use. You might be able to use a 1U rackmount case, but you'll need to find a CPU cooler that is specified to work in a 1U environment. Additionally, you can kiss the use of your expansion slots goodbye.
 
if you want a small computer system then there is other formats besides atx like flex and micro atx these are more appropriate for what u want has they keep cool better and are desined to be in a small area. hope this helps Dave :good:
