I've noticed that Dealers no longer seem to supply the Windows CD with computers. Instead they seem to supply a "recovery disk". Does anyone know what this does? I would want to be able to reformat the hard drive if necessary and re-install windows. Would a "recovery disk" enable me to do this?

A recovery disk would wipe your computer and reinstall Windows on it.
A recovery disk is Windows but just with all the bloated software that the manufacturers put on it aswell. So, if you use the recovery disk, your computer will be exactly the same as the day you first got it.

too right, i think it's people like microsoft or retailers saving money by not producing CD's

but yes pelvis is right, using the recovery CD will restore your pc (including possably out dated drivers & software) to when you got it
