hi yall, i was struggling with the imageshack toolbar, so my idea, would it be possible to install FF for XP into wine and then add the imageshack toolbar, i hate being told i can't do something, so i try to find a way around the problem.

Firefox's plugins are written to be fairly cross-platform, but some are written to make Windows-only system calls, and the same goes for Mac and Linux. So, you cannot run every possible plugin on every platform. That said, I don't know if the imageshack plugin is one such plugin, so I'll try it and let you know if I can get it working. I've never used it, because for me personally I just upload to imageshack when I need to using a link, copy the URL and paste it. Doesn't seem like too much work since I don't do it that often.

On further research of this plugin, it seems it actually requires IE, since it does some stuff with ActiveX. Even though you're running it in Firefox, it's relying on IE to provide that ActiveX support. There's no way you're going to get it working on anything except Windows. ActiveX has been known as a massive vulnerability in Windows for a decade now, so I'm not convinced this is a bad thing.

It just sounds like a pretty big hack for very little functionality. As for IE in WINE, it runs in a sandbox in a user account, so it's much, much more secure than possible in Windows. To me it seems really silly just for a poorly-written toolbar, but it is your time and your PC. :p
