Hey, im new to the forums so hello! Right, i have recently replaced the Belkin G Wired router with a brand new Belkin G+ Wireless router as i have also recently bought a laptop. Since i have installed the router the internet has been alot slower than what it was before. there are 5 devices that can all be connected to the router at any one time: 3 computers (all connected through ethernet cables), 1 XP laptop and one macbook pro. Saying this however, even with one machine connected to the router, the internet is still much slower. Im not too sure what the connection speed is but i know that im with Virgin and that they were putting the connection up to 10mb! Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Josh
This was from the first time i ran the test: This is from the second time i ran the test i hope this helps!
It seems like your connected at very poor speed, try going back to the old router to see if it improves the speed. You can also try; having only the router connected to the phone line, to make sure there isn't any interference thats causing the low connection speed. Note; you'd probably won't get the advertised 10MB speed, it all depends on how close you are to the local exchange.
Right well ive run it once more now that its gone passed midnight and this is what it now shows: This used to happen at my old house with a Belkin G Wireless router, the internet used to be very slow during most of the day and as soon as a few minutes past midnight strikes the internet speeds up loads! Any reasons why this would happen? Many thanks for your previous advice Sniper, a nice welcome to the forums! Edit: if it helps, my ISP is Virgin
It could be to do with Traffic management - Help - Virgin Media but the times don't seem to match up with your problem. Do you have someting electrical that turns on/off at that time? (alarm system etc, something thats close to the phone line) You could try connecting the router directly to the main phone socket, assuming its not currently.
I think i need to give them a call because i remember this happening at my old house. Thanks for the advice Sniper! A good welcome to the forums! ^^
