BF2 grey screen

For my brand new cable I got a brand new BF2 but with my luck it didnt work. It installed fine and when I tried to play it I get stuck on what I think is the main menu with a grey screen. I have a cursor and sound thats it.

plz help i just wanna play a game without doing all of this extra s$%@ for once just once.
 
I recall you having a texture problem on Quake 4?

I think perhaps this could be a sign your Video Card is failing, or you need to update some drivers.
 
Indeed you are correct. I had thought that these problems might be linked. But about my video card failing, I dont think and really dont hope thats the problem, I mean the card is 6 months old and It plays doom 3 fine so idk. It could be a driver problem
 
What does it show when this happens?
Because I had this problem where it was just loading up and got stuck on something similar to "Connecting to server.. Please wait" (along those lines - I can't remember off by heart) with the BF2 Red "2" Cursor. The problem was that my firewall wasn't allowing access to 192.168.0.1:3657 or whatever port BF2 uses, and when I minimized the game to allow it I couldn't go back into it.

So to play it now I disable the firewall and it plays beautifully with my 7800GT.

Hope this is a similar issue to yours :p
 
I had the same problem where BF2 crashes to grey after the into logos and video etc. At the time i had a ATI 9250 which according to the BF2 readme file isnt supported by the game. i resolved the problem by installing the patch to the game (currently newest one is 1.3) and updating video drivers. everything worked after that. apart from that try

Well chris thx for replying but disabling my auto protect and firewall didnt work. And as far as downloading patches I had planned on it but have dialup currently. But I ordered cable 3 days ago but they didnt get here today like they said they were. But now that you said you had the same problem and the patch fixed it I feel VERY relived.
