BF42 help needed! Very slow to load!

hey dudes,
I've been having this prob for some time now. Whenever I start
BF42 it starts up at the EA and DIce logo screens taking a VERY long time to get passed them. Once you are at the menu screen and loading a map, the game runs fine, BUT when Im playing online and the server changes the map, once again it takes a TREMENDOUS amount of time to load, so i get sick of it and close it. This problem also occurs with the GC mod, but a lot worse.
I deleted the profiles, scanned for viruses and cleaned spyware, tried running BF without Norton Internet Security and none of those help. One thing I did find weird though is that if you go to the EAsy (Electronic Arts System Information) info program it is telling me that my CPU speed is WAY below 500 MHz, it tells me: Minimun - 500 MHz Your System - -2137 Mhz and it has a red mark next to it indicating is not good enough. WTF??? How can a processor have a negative speed???
I don't think it likes AMDs much,
Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon XP 3000
1 GB Ram
160 GB HD
GeForce 5500 FX 256 MB

It is a brand new computer.
Can somebody plese help me out here?? I'd love a response
 
BG is a hell of a beasty game to play..especially if you play with 64 players.

Your processor is not top spec...thats my guess as to the loading times..1 gig of RAM is sufficient. The gfx card again isn't top spec, but for BF, its fine.
 
So, what should i do?
I mean its really odd since it runs fine when playing battles.
My pc is beyond BF42 system reqs, this is so confusing!

I forgot to mention, in all other EA games, the logo loading screens load normally without any problems.
BF 2 runs perfectly fine on my PC and it requires good pc to play.
BF42 has so many probs.
 
Check for any patches..from my experience it was a pretty glitchy game..it runs terribly on my rig, but as you said, BF2 works fine.

I am willing to bet that you have a HDD that isn't cooled very well and it's a bit thrashed, maybe even Maxtor brand. Is this true? If so, it's probably a HDD bottleneck, which would jive with your long load times but adequate gameplay. Defragmenting may help a bit, but really if your HDD really is thrashing, you probably just need to eventually replace it.

I know I'm assuming a lot, but really that is the most common cause of the problems you're having.

Yes i do have a maxtor and I built the pc myself so it probably is causing some conflicts
man, ill try to defragment the HDD then

maxtor has a pretty bad reputation. they make cheap hard drives.

western digital and seagate are my favorites. While western digital have a very good reputation seagate supplies their hard drives with a 5 year warranty.
 
Yes, Seagate's inexpensive IDE drives use the same liquid-bearing motors as their pricey SCSI drives, so they run cool & quiet and last a long time.
