I have an hp pavilion 750c (severly modified) I would like to overclock my Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz. But my bios doesnt let me overclock. And I looked everywhere for BIOs for an asus p4b266-la BIOS but their is non! not even on asuses website! but there is p4b266-c p4b266-m p4b266-se p4b266-E and p4b266. would any of these work for my motherboard?
if there isn't a BIOS on the website, then I'm gonna shoot in the dark and say that there is a high probability that the board was made just for the pavilions at the current time. If that's so, there is a very low chance of finding a BIOS for it enabling clock changes. You might be able to find some 3rd party BIOS's for the board though.
Well, while NF is right on the subject, there is no need to "shoot" in the dark. If your computer was made by: Dell Compaq (now compaq) HP Fujitsu Seimens or any other major company, all their motherboards are not "normal" motherboards, what they do is they say i'd like to base this new "model" on this: "Asus P4b266", then they contract Asus to make them their own version of the board. You will not be able to find a BIOS that will allow you to overclock, these companies deliberately make sure that overclocking is a no no, so that you Have to upgrade. Your only option is to buy a new motherboard.
I've come across many (pre-HP buyout) Compaq PCs which had plain, old Gigabyte motherboards with no special tweaks or hardware hacks. Those could be flashed to OEM BIOSes very easily.
Of course, the usual warning should apply that we take no responsibility if you fsck-up your hardware. But, yes, you probably can flash to a different BIOS. You might also double check to see if there's any jumpers you can change to help OC. I doubt it, but it's worth checking out.
