It all started with a blue screen. A message telling me that windows was shutting down to prevent damage to the system. It said to use a different video adapter. So I went and bought a $90 Card and put it in my system. Now my monitor didn't come on. I went to a techsupport forum and they told me to put the old video card in and delete the device software for the original card. I did this. The monitor came on this time, but yellow and white lines were displayed on the screen. They told me that it could be the power supply, so I go and buy a 500W and set it up. Well, the main plug that goes into the mobo is supposed to be 24 pins (12 respectively on each side). I put the 18 pin into the plug thinking it won't matter since it's 500W, but since I know nothing about this, I'm going to listen to my gut and put it in. I plug it up and turn on the switch in the back of the PSU and the green light in the front of my computer blinks about 5 times on and off in short intervals. Now, I'm going to bring the power supply back, and I still haven't solved my problem.
18 pin? Are you sure about that? What model PS, and do you have a photo of this connector? ATX 1.x is 20pin and ATX 2.0 is 24pin. What video card did you originally have installed? Did you try grabbing a copy of the latest drivers?
