Blocked web pages at work...

My place of employment recently made it so I can no longer access most websites including my schools site. Is it possible to get around this? I use to use my freetime to do school work, but now I am limited to sites that relate directly with work, any suggestions will be appreciated.

First, they will NOT be happy if they catch you doing this... i wouldn't be surprised if they fired you for it (so is it really worth it?).

Content filtering can work in 2 different ways,

a) There is a list of websites that you are not allowed to see such as addictinggames.com, youtube.com, myspace.com etc (a blacklist, anything on the list is blocked)

b) There is a list of website that you are allowed to see such as boringcompanywebsite.com and other websites you need to do your job (a whitelist, anything not on the list is blocked).

Type (a) is very easy to get around, type (b) can be a lot harder if not impossible... from your description it sounds like type (b) but i want to make sure.

How is your internet access censored? is it software running on the computer you use or a computer on the network?

The computers are on a network, many sites like youtube I can still access, but other sites like southparkzone I can not. For some reason I can no longer access the blackboard website for school. If I could get access to this again I am not concerned with any of the other sites.

ok, from a computer not at your work (no censorship) see if the website you need works using stupidcensorship.com.

If it works sign up to the mailing list as you can assume stupidcensorship.com is blocked from your work, but if your on the mailing list you get new ones sent to you regularly.

if that doesn't work, bitch about it here and i will suggest something else :)

If the school's website is relevant to the work, then I'd get in touch with your IT department about it and let them know. If you can show the company a benefit by allowing access to a non-offensive site, it's worth a shot.
