Boot Fail

    My mate has got a problem with his computer he turned it on last week and it comes up with fail insert boot disk he tried re formatting and it says the same thing, but when he tried another hard disk that he knows is working it still says the same thing, i have checked the bios and every thing looks ok, what do you think it could be

    a format was not the right thing to do, what O/S is he using & his specs would also be useful

    He is using Windows XP, The computer Has Athlon XP 256mb Ram, The Hard Disk Is A maxtor 40GB IDE We Checked This Drive On ANother computer and it works fine so i am a bit stuck.

    right, XP but what flavour (hopefully SP2) boot from cd and reinstall XP, what changed between it working and it not working ?

    Look into your floppy drive, if there is a floppy in there? Remove it and turnon your computer.
