Boot Problem

Darcadian V1

Big Geek
For the last few days I have been having a problem where my screen would suddenly go black at random and the only way to regain a picture was to reboot (sound was also cut off).
Today this problem became more frequent and now everytime I try to turn the computer on there is no signal to the monitor and my keyboard wont function (Tested this by pressing caps lock and scroll lock and the indicator lights didnt come on).
Ive have tried 3 different monitors and all respond the same. I have tried 3 different VGA cables and all are the same.
I have checked all the cable connections inside the PC and also removed the graphics card to clean the slot and remounted it.
Another thing I noticed was that the computer fans dont seem to make as much noise as they used to on start up but all seem to be spinning well without problems.
This problem has me baffled and desperatly need a solution :(

Thanks.

Hi, have you reset cmos? I take it now you can't post bios. It sounds to me like it could be power supply unit as you've said it started happening more frequent and then all of a sudden nothing. so yea try another psu if you've got one spare.

Thanks for the reply Bobby, Sadly I dont have a spare psu to try but I did notice something interesting. I get a Post readout on a little LCD display on the back of my motherboard and when I start the computer up it hangs on "TEST VRAM" or "BOOT VGA". Could this mean my graphics card has died? I do have another card I can try so will give that a go.

hi, give the spare graphics card ago if no luck with that. try one module of ram in one dimm at a time, could have a faulty module of ram. Or if you've got a spare module of ram give that a go as well.

BTW: what motherboard have you got?

Tried the other graphics card and all is running fine woo hoo!. Thanks for the input bobby im lucky I didnt need it.
Now to fork out for a new card :(
