This is a quick tutorial on how to create a brushed metal effect.
Open a new document, I used these settings:
Width: 400 Pixels
Height: 400 Pixels
Resolution: 72 Pixels/Inch
Color Mode: RGB Color 8 Bit
Background Contents: Transparent
Now fille the background with a dark grey colour, I used #282828.
Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and set the amount to 25% set the Distribution to Gaussian and make sure the 'Monochromatic' box is checked.
Noise Image
Next go to Filter > BLur > Motion Blur and set the direction to any direction you prefer (I've set mine at 45 Degrees). The distance can be altered as well, I've set mine at 50 Pixels.
Blur Image
Now go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options > Color Overlay and set the colour as white. Play around with the opacity until you get to shade of metal you want, I used 50%
Finished Image
You are done with your effect, this can be used to buttons, interfaces, signatures whtever you want really!im
